Based in Brussels Belgium, Dr. Mary Ann Ramos performs extensively as a chamber musician and soloist throughout Europe and the Americas. She holds prizes in various competitions, among them the Mexican National Cello Competition and the Music Teachers National Association. Solo concerto appearances include the Gateway Festival Orchestra, the University City Symphony, the Alton Symphony, the Kirkwood Symphony, and the Northern Arizona University Symphony Orchestra. She has performed for Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton as an invited soloist, at the State Department in Washington DC. As an orchestral musician, Dr. Ramos performs regularly with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, Prima La Musica Orchestra, Ataneres Ensemble, and Chineke Orchestra, in prestigious venues around the world including Carnegie Hall (New York City), The Kennedy Center (Washington DC), and at the BBC Proms in Royal Albert Hall (London).
Highly sought after as a teacher, Dr. Ramos was the cello professor at Northern Arizona University in the United States, from 2010-2023. Since moving to Belgium in 2023, she now maintains a vibrant private cello studio in Brussels. Dr. Ramos has also been on faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy for 13 summers, teaching and performing at Curtis Institute of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, and Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. Previous summer festival engagements have included Oxmoor International Chamber Music Festival (Kentucky), Peaks to Plains Advanced Chamber Camp (Colorado), Festival du Chambre du Larzac (France), Festival Artistico Coahuila (México), PhoenixPhest (Michigan), Insbrook Institute (Missouri), Chamber Music Connection (Ohio), Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory (Colorado), and Chamber Music Encounter (Missouri).
Dr. Ramos completed her Bachelor's degree at New England Conservatory as a student of Laurence Lesser, her Master's degree at Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of Richard Aaron, and her Doctorate at University of Michigan as a student of Anthony Elliott. Dr. Ramos is a Suzuki cello teacher registered with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and completed her Suzuki training with Dr. Tanya Lesinsky Carey.
