Dr. Mary Ann Ramos has been on cello faculty at Northern Arizona University since the Fall of 2010. She holds prizes in various competitions, among them the Mexican National Cello Competition and the Music Teachers National Association. Solo concerto appearances include the Gateway Festival Orchestra, the University City Symphony, the Alton Symphony, the Kirkwood Symphony, and the Northern Arizona University Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Ramos has worked with the Sphinx Organization since 2000, in various different capacities. She was a semi-finalist of the Sphinx Competition Junior Division in 2000, and of the Senior Division in 2004. Since 2002, Dr. Ramos has been a regular member of the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with them in venues across the country including Carnegie Hall in New York City, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D. C. She has been on faculty at the Sphinx Performance Academy every summer since 2011.
Previous summer festival engagements have included Oxmoor International Chamber Music Festival (Kentucky), Peaks to Plains Advanced Chamber Camp (Colorado), Festival du Chambre du Larzac (France), Festival Artistico Coahuila (México), PhoenixPhest (Michigan), Insbrook Institute (Missouri), Chamber Music Connection (Ohio), Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory (Colorado), and Chamber Music Encounter (Missouri).
On May 19, 2010, Dr. Ramos was invited to be the featured soloist at the Offical State Luncheon hosted by Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton in honor of the President of Mexico's visit to Washington D.C.
Dr. Ramos completed her Bachelor's degree at New England Conservatory as a student of Laurence Lesser, her Master's degree at Cleveland Institute of Music as a student of Richard Aaron, and her Doctorate at University of Michigan as a student of Anthony Elliott.
